    You could also just simply play the fast passages with your fingers on the side of the string instead of on top of the string as you should be doing anyway.

    Ah yes, letting your exercises dictate when vibrato is played and not let it be a concious decision. NEXT!

    Could you make another video explaining the "debate", rather than only saying there is one, which will at least separate you from so many videos with click-bait titles? Expounding upon the lead-up to the portion, I think, would definitely allow room for an examination of the so-called "merits" of each of options which could be preferred; and why.

    Other techniques are used to play more.. progressive songs. But a flat bow does sound lovely. Thank you for teaching me!

    I play bass but I’m pretty sure this could translate over, personally I’d want the weight of my arm to be directed into the bridge, not the instrument, having the hair towards the bridge allows for more weight to be directed to the bridge.

    I think this is a personal perspective rather than a reliable rule. I'm doubtful a class of beginner cellists will track straighter either way.

    Interesting take, but playing with flat hair doesn’t guarantee a straight bow in my experience. There are other factors at play.

    Exaggerated glissandi- such as in old recordings of Saint-Saens The Swan are my pet hate. But I especially agree that they should be purged from the Baroque and Classical repertoire. As for vibrato, I don't think cello teachers spend enough time on the variety of the technique.Thank you for this post. I'd love more please.

    My fourth finger has the strongest vibrato but consequently my pinky is permanently bent

  • @tom_something
    @tom_something 14 дней назад

    At first I thought "fourth finger" was in reference to the ring finger. Which made sense to me because it's comparatively lacking in individual dexterity. But then I watched your demonstration and learned 1) that's not the finger we're talking about and 2) the problem finger isn't the problem finger. During vibrato, the fretting finger's main job is just to be there. The ring finger can be there. That's about all it can do. Vibrato is driven by the rest of the hand. So the actual fourth finger (pinky)'s vibrato issue isn't with that finger itself, is it?

    Surely it’s just opinion? We have no recordings of Bachs original performances. How do we know what he intended ?

  • @erichkaanikin3555
    @erichkaanikin3555 15 дней назад

    It’s very similar in guitar. I was a professional studio guitarist by age 19, but at 17 was teaching 32 students per week. And my vibrato was good with every finger. And just like he said, when I attacked the pinky, it then became automatic for my pinky to do its rapid wiggle. Then it became a matter of being conscious that when playing something off a radio hit, not every note had vibrato. But a tiny bit just makes the notes more satisfying.
